Please Just Leave Britney Alone!!

So now the little starlett who has fallen from the sky is in the hospital. Maybe she partied a little too hard. Maybe she has serious mental problems. I really question the sanity of any mother who could let her children be taken from her, who has been so unwilling to comply with the courts, and otherwise, seems too overwhelmed by motherhood to cope properly. I actually have complex feelings about this rich girl who I have never met.

I pity her in some ways… watching from my anonymity as her life and career slowly crumble and seeing the crush of people around her. None of whom probably give a damn about her, including those on her payroll. Apparently, it doesn’t bother some people to stand by and watch a young mother come apart if they are getting a nice ride on her gravy train. And on the subject of motherhood, where is her mother? Maybe she’s at the hospital where she should be. Maybe now she will consider a book on how NOT to parent. Or maybe she will realize that her daughter is more important than making a few bucks telling stories from her childhood. What is wrong with her? Lady, there are people placing bets on the day your daughter dies, and I’m sure the odds just changed … get your priorities straight.

God!

In some ways I am also jealous of Britney… not because of the fame (I would hate that), or the money and the house, although they are nice. I certainly don’t envy her career because there isn’t much to envy. But being carted out of your house to the hospital for pity and pills in a cup… I’m in! If I knew how to snap, I would. Under the crushing weight of unemployment, marital problems, financial stress and my son’s health, I deserve at least a three day stay. And if they could throw in a back rub and a mud wrap, that would be great.

God Still Hates Fred Phelps

Thanks to several responses on my blog and others, including my good friend who sent me this link by email with the subject line “More than you ever wanted to know about Fred Phelps.” What an eye-opener!

Sit down before you read it:

I am a liberal person, a writer, and an outspoken citizen that values her freedom of speech as much as anyone. I was also raised a Baptist, and even though I consider myself more spiritual than religious, I remember clearly the teachings of the church.

It is clear that Topeka, Kansas has been disrupted in many ways by Phelps and his foul-mouthed, abusive crew of litigious hatemongers, aka, his extended family. And I am appalled that the Baptist churches in Topeka, Kansas do not come out against Fred Phelps and his “church,” a title he hides behind in order to avoid paying taxes. God has nothing to do with it.

Why would the real Baptists not publicly condemn such open displays of hatred? Surely Phelps does not represent them and their beliefs… although their silence on the issue would indicate otherwise. We all know you can condone many things by turning away, pretending it doesn’t exist, or just by remaining quiet.

And Topeka’s local government and mainline Baptist churches are supporters by default, by NOT SPEAKING OUT.

It is no wonder that businesses don’t want to go to Topeka. I wouldn’t hold a convention, a business meeting, a job interview, or even have a cup of coffee in Topeka… I wouldn’t want to risk being confronted by these emotionally unstable people, who according to the Topeka police department, have the legal right to shout obscenities in my face.

I believe a complete boycott of Topeka might get some attention. A boycott on new economic investments, on new business developments, on existing businesses, on tourism, and especially on employment or relocation. No sane person would want to conduct business or live and work in that kind of atmosphere.

If Topeka were hit hard enough in the wallet, maybe then the Topeka Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, whose purpose is to promote tourism and economic development would be forced to investigate a problem they have so far ignored. Perhaps the city government will find it in their best interest to quiet Phelps or make him disappear. Tie him to a raft and let him go out to sea. Who cares?

I think the residents of Topeka would agree that life without Phelps might be interpreted as proof that there is a God after all. And that He really hates Fred Phelps.

God Hates Fred Phelps

“He (Heath Ledger) got on that big screen with a big, fat message: God is a liar and it’s OK to be gay,” Shirley Phelps, Westboro Baptist Church member.

Hey, Shirley Phelps, guess what? You are a freak. And you are probably going to hell.

The funeral protesters at Westboro Baptist Church, run by that infamous homosexual self-hater, Fred Phelps, are getting out the Tempra paint and poster board. Now that one of Hollywood’s young hot stars, who happened to play a gay character in a movie, has died, they plan to protest his funeral. Imagine their excitement.

They have had lots of practice, from protesting the funeral of Matthew Shepard to fallen U.S. soldiers. But with the death of Heath Ledger, they have decided this is their big chance. Their debut, as it were. All the cameras will be pointing at them. And I suppose they will get on the screen with a few big fat messages of their own, such as, See why we are universally hated, even by our fellow Baptists? and This is what ignorance looks like.

If it weren’t so easy to despise them, I might actually feel sorry for those idiots with the signs. They are just sheep. They are obviously simple-minded, and easily led… I doubt any one of them has ever had an original thought. They drape themselves in a Christian cloak, but they behave in the opposite fashion. As if they sat around in a meeting and said “What wouldn’t Jesus do?”

Unlike most religious groups and cults I have seen, these people aren’t well-intentioned. They have a hate-filled belief system and purposefully cause other people pain. I wouldn’t want to have to answer for that. If Fred Phelps and his followers believe in God, it must be that they are too stupid to be afraid.

Good luck at the Pearly Gates, weirdos.
