It is very stressful as you know. Ironically, I have many times said to God or no one in particular "just take my leg... I don't care, just make him better." Damn right I'd rather hobble around than suffer that way, or worse, watch my son suffer like he does. My son was given the Humira pen and he tried it once in the stomach, and once in the thigh at home a few months ago. He just can't stand it. Meanwhile, I have a bunch of Rx medication in my fridge that costs a ton of money and they won't take the unused pens back. There are so many issues I never had to deal with before he got sick... and I wish more than anything I could do something other than just put my faith in medicine and hope it works.

We are doing a Remicade IV treatment in a week or so and I am hoping that he will respond well to that.

I wish the best you and your son. I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers. Please feel free to contact me via email at earth2sonja@yahoo.com if you'd like to communicate privately.

My son has Crohn's and started taking Humira in November of 2007. He didn't have to take it in the stomach. The drug came to us in a kit with these special injection tools that inject the drug. He injects it every two weeks into his thigh. He says it does smart a little. It does help to let the injection tool warm up to room temperature before injecting. I understand your frustration. This is a tough disease. I'd rather lose a leg or an arm than have this. It's heart wrenching to watch your child go through it.

I have replied to you privately, but in a nutshell, I would seek help from your family doctor first. There are many programs to treat this disorder.
