God Hates Fred Phelps
“He (Heath Ledger) got on that big screen with a big, fat message: God is a liar and it’s OK to be gay,” Shirley Phelps, Westboro Baptist Church member.
Hey, Shirley Phelps, guess what? You are a freak. And you are probably going to hell.
The funeral protesters at Westboro Baptist Church, run by that infamous homosexual self-hater, Fred Phelps, are getting out the Tempra paint and poster board. Now that one of Hollywood’s young hot stars, who happened to play a gay character in a movie, has died, they plan to protest his funeral. Imagine their excitement.
They have had lots of practice, from protesting the funeral of Matthew Shepard to fallen U.S. soldiers. But with the death of Heath Ledger, they have decided this is their big chance. Their debut, as it were. All the cameras will be pointing at them. And I suppose they will get on the screen with a few big fat messages of their own, such as, See why we are universally hated, even by our fellow Baptists? and This is what ignorance looks like.
If it weren’t so easy to despise them, I might actually feel sorry for those idiots with the signs. They are just sheep. They are obviously simple-minded, and easily led… I doubt any one of them has ever had an original thought. They drape themselves in a Christian cloak, but they behave in the opposite fashion. As if they sat around in a meeting and said “What wouldn’t Jesus do?”
Unlike most religious groups and cults I have seen, these people aren’t well-intentioned. They have a hate-filled belief system and purposefully cause other people pain. I wouldn’t want to have to answer for that. If Fred Phelps and his followers believe in God, it must be that they are too stupid to be afraid.
Good luck at the Pearly Gates, weirdos.

The rumor is the family is filled with lawyers. The story is they try to provoke local governments and organizations to limit their protests or even attack them so they can sue. It’s like they are part of Ann Coulter’s extended family.

That is not surprising. More proof that most lawyers are scum.

Let the non-sinners among you cast the first stone at them.

i agree with your blog ocdiva. i come from england so we are not so used to these horrific extremes of fundamentalism as in the US (i assume youre from there, apologies if not). they certainly give christianity a bad name. they have, by the sounds of it, taken god as an excuse for their hate and persecuting/judgemental ways.

Hey Kieren, where’s your sign?

Ug. I just realized. Lawyers and dirty religious extremists. An ugly combination.

Hey cokewidow, what do you mean where’s my sign?
January 25, 2008 at 3:22 pm
Keiren… I think she assumed you are defending Phelps. Which you shouldn’t!

Well it appears my comment was completely misunderstood. Fred Phelps is an extremely disturbed and disgusting person. My comment was merely an example of how contradictory the bible is.

My sincere apologies, Keiren. I did misunderstand what you meant, and I guess I proved your point for you! Sorry…

Yes, of course, the Bible is contradictory. It was written by men. Men have different opinions. Fortunately, my faith is not based on the Bible, but rather on the teachings of Jesus. These teachings never condemn LGBT people (or any other “sinners” for that matter–and I use that word only because it was used in a previous post). If my faith were based on the Bible, I, a gay man, would not have the faith that I do. Or, if I did, I would be a self-loathing pitiable soul.

If I believed what the Bible said, I definately would be on the road to hell, for I wear makeup, and jewelry. I don’t give money to the church. I don’t sacrifice animals. Nor do I limit what I eat to Biblical standards.
I gave up on the Bible as THE WORD OF GOD a long time ago. I do however try my best to live by the teachings of Christ… I believe it is much more simple… and without the contradicitons that human beings seem to bring to everything we do. I feel people are more confused by the Bible than helped by it sometimes.

I would like to hold up a sign near Westboro Baptists protesters with the words “Praise Jesus, the Prince of Hatred!”
